15th September 2021 - A well known local artist John Edwards was our guest tonight. John appraised the paintings brought in by some of our Members and gave excellent feedback and advice. A very enjoyable evening.

Meeting 20th November. Lynne Friel
This was a fascinating demonstration by Lynne about the history and make up of pigments used in the past and still today. She discussed ‘unsafe colours’ which contained arsenic, mercury and lead, contributing to death and illness of artists. Various binders of the pigments included spit and ear wax! Lapis Lazuli was more expensive than gold – she had plenty of interesting stories about how the colours were derived. After tea break we all had an attempt at making and painting with egg tempera – some more successful than others!

October 16th Meeting
Alison Board demonstrated Flowers in watercolour and Brusho. Approximately 50 members attended for an excellent evening with an artist whose knowledge of colour and the make up of watercolour paints and pigments was fascinating. We hope to book Alison for a future workshop. It is worth exploring her website for further information and on-line demos. www.alisonboard-fineart.co.uk. Well done to Christine Coney whose painting was chosen by Alison in the mini exhibition.

September 18th Meeting
Our demonstration, again well attended, was a pastel portrait by Lucie Cookson, who travelled from the Chichester area to be with us.
Sandy Poynter volunteered to be the sitter for Lucie, who proceeded to explain the importance of distance and light source for a portrait. Without drawing any lines and using pastel pencils to create layers of light and shadow she produced a good likeness of Sandy in such a short time.
Lucie runs several art classes/courses. For further details visit www.tidystreet.com.

Sept 19th 2018 Demo Evening.
Roy Lang demonstrated a seascape in oils.
Roy Lang demonstrated a seascape in oils.
Another good attendance at the September meeting when Roy Lang demonstrated a seascape in oils. He painted a dramatic scene of sea on the rocks beautifully. Interestingly he worked from a homemade palette from lightweight Formulux Ultra board, using cheap brushes and student quality paints! He expertly showed the spray, linear flow patterns, collapsing waves and the rising and rolling of the sea, creating a lovely seasape. After all his hard work he then auctioned the painting off to the members which sold for a very reasonable price. He judged the Seascape mini exhibition and announced Shandy Simmons as the winner.
